You Can Make a Difference - Donate to the PTSA’s Lowell Fund!

Thank you to all who have already supported the Lowell PTSA. Please consider making an end-of-year donation to the Lowell Fund. Every year, the PTSA awards grant money towards enrichment opportunities for our students. PTSA also underwrites educational and wellness workshops as well as college readiness programming. In the next week, you will be receiving the PTSA Fall fundraising appeal letter in the mail. This letter will include a tear-off donation form and a return envelope. If you prefer to donate online, you may also do so at www.lowellptsa.org/lowell-fund. Please remember to ask your employer if they provide corporate matching gift. This can significantly multiply the amount of your donation. Thank you for your continued support!

Share Your Opinion About the Lowell Renaming Process Before the January 19th SFUSD Board of Education Convening of the Committee of the Whole

Wherever you stand regarding the school renaming decision, we encourage you to take action:
● Let your voice be heard and reach out to the BOE
● Attend the Board of Education Meetings
● VOTE!

The Board of Education is convening as a committee of the whole on January 19th to consider if there are schools on the list that should come off.  Principal Swett has been contacted by BOE Commissioner Mark Sanchez and he has affirmed that the BOE will consider the community's opinions and desires.

Background information shared by Principal Swett:  The official name is not " The James Russell Lowell High School" - all communication and records are Lowell High School and Lowell Alternative High School. Points to consider: cost, loss of connection between generations, historical position of Lowell within San Francisco, timing during the global pandemic...

The Lowell poses a "solution" of having our school honor Maria Lowell instead of JR.

Principal Swett and the Lowell PTSA encourage our membership to communicate whatever position they wish to take on this issue with the Board of Education.

The Administration will be sending a survey out to students to collect their thoughts.
